Four Paws LOST MY DOGS! (Southside Richmond)

Posted by Dogs123 on 10/20/2009

I know this is hard to believe but I was on vacation and boarded my two dogs with Four paws on Southside. I received a call while I was away from MY NEIGHBOR that they had one of my dogs. Some kind soul had found my dog wandering through traffic on Courthouse Rd. and saw my address on the tags and returned it. The other dog was farther down the road a few hours later and that family returned the dog to Four Paws. When I went in to Four Paws to ask how they had lost my dogs they said some dog had dug a hole and a bunch of dogs escaped. Later on when I called again to complain I had to remind them WHICH OCCASION this was of the dogs escaping. They didnt seem to be too bothered that both of my dogs could have been killed. The one dog was actually picked up IN THE MEDIAN on Courthouse rd. If you love your dogs do not take them to Four Paws. I considered what action to take against them and I figured the best course to take is just to get the word about how negligent this place is. If I can save just one dogs life it was worth it.

Not a good experience for me. Shop around.

I took my Silky Terrier to Four Paws for a four night stay. The website boasts of having their "guests reside in suites" and of having 10 hours of supervised playtime. When I dropped him off, I requested to tour the facility. I was told that I couldn't tour the place at that time because the "big dogs" were out and they might harm me because they are not used to strangers. I thought this was odd but I had to leave the following day and had no alternatives. As I had just given my dog his bordatella and distemper shots I called the following day to check on him. The person on the phone told me he was playing with the other little ones. My dog is 12 years old with no teeth and breathing trouble. He has never played in the years he has been in my family. When I arrived to pick him up, I was shown where the dogs sleep. It was basically a small horse stall with cement floors, no bed, no food dishes, no blankets, no toys. The inside play area was a large open garage with cement floors. I didn't see any toys or obstacle type furniture. I was not permitted to view the outside play area, only the owner could show me that area which makes no sense. The pictures displayed an all gravel area, no grass. The worst part was when my little guy was given to me. His hair was sticky wet with urine. I will never use their establishments again. I thought I was leaving my little guy with people who loved animals. There is no excuse for allowing an animal to become urine soaked themselves and to leave them that way.

Great place

Very clean and friendly. My dogs came home so tired from all the playtime they got. Thanks.
