Though relatively limited in the number of commercial flights it provides, Richmond International Airport (RIC) offers the most convenient access into the city and its surrounding areas. On a tight budget, it may be cheaper to fly into one of the airports surrounding Washington, D.C., like Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) or Ronald Reagan Washingtion National Airport (DCA), and then rent a car or take a shuttle to Richmond.
Travel by car is facilitated by the intersection of Interstates 64, 95 and 85 at Richmond, allowing movement along these well-maintained roads both around the metro area and throughout the region. The public bus system, run by the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC), is a possible way to traverse town, but driving a private vehicle is by far the preferred method of transit throughout Richmond.
